BSE-benchmark Sensex opens 90 points lower


Mumbai: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex on Tuesday opened over 90 points lower on emergence of profit booking at higher levels amid weak Asian cues. The 30-share index, which had gained 305.73 points in the previous sessions, fell by 90.47 points, or 0.50 per cent, to 17,786.08 points in the first five minutes of trading. The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty also fell by 27.20 points, or 0.50 per cent, to 5,326.10 points. Marketmen said trading sentiment turned bearish on emergence of profit selling by funds at existing higher levels amid weakening trend in Asian bourses. Reliance Industries declined by 0.42 per cent to Rs 1060.75, Infosys by 0.84 per cent to Rs 2,778.10, Sterlite by 2.91 per cent to Rs 178.35, Tata Steel by Rs 0.91 per cent to Rs 499.70 and Hindalco by 1.11 per cent to Rs 151.75.
