Friends can lead you to spend a significant amount more. They can make you think less consciously about your budget. We obviously can't give up our friends and spend all of our nights at home alone or with or significant other. There are many things big and small that you simply cannot afford. So prepare yourself mentally on how you would manage your finances when you are out. Set a rule saying that you spend money on things you can't afford. Don't put it on credit, and make sure that the money is locked up. If you feel a dinner out with friends is going to drain out your budget, then simply say no or try and have smaller dishes rather than the main meal which save your money. Or you suggest an alternative plan to your friends. Invite your friends over for dinner and cook a meal for them which will definitely not cost you much. It's easier to save money and do cheap or free things if you have a friend who is doing the same thing. If you have a friend's support, even if it is just one, it is easier to control yourself. No one would be interested in listening about your money problems all the time, but you should share with close friends that you are trying to stick to a budget.
