Founded in 1975, the Redmond, WA based Microsoft (Nasdaq "MSFT") is a provider of software,
services and solutions. On March 13, 1986 Microsoft stock went public. In 1995
Microsoft launched Windows 95. A little over a decade later its founder
Bill Gates transitioned out of a day-to-day role in the company. Succeeding him now is
Steven A. Ballmer as the Chief Executive Officer, Microsoft Corporation. Revenues are
$44.28 billion and the company is in the hands of 76,539 employees worldwide.
The Bangalore based Microsoft Research India, established in January 2005, is one of
Microsoft's five research labs worldwide. It is headed by Dr. P Anandan, internationally
renowned for his work in computer vision and video analysis. Kentaro Toyama, Assistant
Managing Director of Microsoft Research India, is a respected researcher in
computer vision and multimedia. The lab is dedicated to conducting both basic
and applied research in computer science and software engineering. Microsoft
Research India currently focuses on Cryptography, Security, and Algorithms,
Digital Geographics, Mobility, Networks, and Systems; Multilingual Systems,
Rigorous Software Engineering and Technology for Emerging Markets.
Established in May 2005 Microsoft Global Services India (MGSI) is based in Hyderabad
and is headed by Arumugam Saravanan. It is part of the Microsoft Enterprise Services.
It helps customers and partners discover and implement high-end value Microsoft
solutions that generate rapid and measurable results. MGSI provides full lifecycle
delivery capabilities that involve the architecture, design, building, testing,
deployment and maintenance of solutions built on the Microsoft platform. MGSI partners
with India-based global Solution Integrators (SIs) to scale its capabilities and
provide knowledge transfer on cutting edge Microsoft technologies.
MGSI is co-located with the other two businesses of Microsoft-MSIDC (product development center)
and GDCI (Global Delivery Center)-at the Hyderabad campus. This enables it to
provide an integrated value to the customer by leveraging the synergies created
by combining the technical talent of the product groups.
MGSI is focused on creating and maintaining solutions IP that can be reused effectively
at customer locations, enabling it to create economies of scale. The typical solutions
include deep technology skills in Portals and Collaboration, Enterprise Application
Integration, Databases, and Infrastructure Integration. The Centre provides solutions
delivery in Microsoft Dynamics, specifically focusing on Axapata and MS CRM, as well
as custom Line of Business (LOB)
Some of the new value added offerings by MGSI include Application Security Analysis
and Auditing capabilities. It also provides customers with access to cutting edge
lab testing facilities where they can provide application scalability, availability
and performance testing services.
