Established in November 1990, ARM is a U.K. based joint venture between
Apple Computer, Acorn Computer Group and VLSI Technology. Headquartered
in Cherry Hinton, Cambridge England, the company is known for its processors,
although it also designs, licenses and sells software development tools under
the RealView and KEIL brands, systems and platforms, system-on-a-chip
infrastructure and software. ARM designs the core technology of advanced
digital products, from wireless, networking and consumer entertainment
solutions to imaging, automotive, security and storage devices.
ARM which is known as Advanced RISC Machines Ltd., is listed under its associated
holding company (ARM Holdings PLC) on the London Stock Exchange (symbol: ARM) and NASDAQ (symbol: ARMHY).
Presently the company has offices and design centres across the world, including Sunnyvale,
California, Austin, Texas, Olympia, Washington, Trondheim, Norway, Sophia Antipolis,
France, Munich, Germany, Leuven, Belgium Taiwan, Shin Yokohama, Japan, China, and India
Headed by Anil Gupta, the India centre of digital design company ARM has come a
long way from being a mere design center. ARM, currently has five companies,
Wipro Technologies, MindTree, HCL Technologies, Sasken Communications and IBM Global
Services India as its approved design centers.
