Rashmi, alumni of IIT Roorkee, India obtained a Bachelors of Engineering in 1977 and an MS from Eastern Washington University, USA in 1979. Starting her career as a Programmer Analyst in Citicorp, she then moved to IBM, USA as Systems Engineer and rapidly grew to Database Specialist with focus on IBM’s DB2-mainframe databases and was one of the first employees of IBM Global Business Services. Very early on, IBM recognized her capability as a technology expert and sent her all across USA to train upcoming Systems Engineers in IT Services area of DB2 and CICS, IBM’s flagship software technologies at the time.
But this career trajectory was not enough for Rashmi. In 1990, she relinquished her settled career and lifestyle in the US to pursue her dream of bringing innovative solutions to India. It was at the 1994 Comdex, the largest software industry trade show in the US that she, along with her husband came across a stall showcasing digital maps. They caught a flight the next day to Albany, the capital of New York State, to strike a deal with MapInfo, the company that built the software, to create digital map data base for India.
