 What is scholarships?

scholarship is an award of access to an institution, an extra support or a financial aid award for an individual student scholar, for the purpose of furthering their education.  Scholarship can give students recognition or honor after achieving a goal of a particular field. Actually scholarship motivate students to perform better in future. Scholarships are awarded based on a range of criteria which usually reflect the values and purposes of the donor or founder of the award. We can say Scholarship is an incentive as well as encouragement to meritorious students. A special emphasis is given to studies abroad where also the innovative methods are used and substantial developments have taken place in the field of education. It will develop the  students performance as well as their career.

Scholarship Application Procedure 

The procedure for applying for different scholarships in India and abroad are different. It is important for the students to go through the details of the scholarships in India and abroad before accepting them as many of them may come with some strings attached.  Generally  it conducted with 3 steps. Step 1: Application,   Step 2: Interview, Step 3: Scholarship would be send to the concern School / College or University on behalf of the Applicant.

Types of scholarship
 
•Undergraduate Scholarship
This category contains international scholarships for undergraduate and college levels. Undergraduate is the name given to students who are studying for their first degree. A scholarship is money awarded to a student to help finance a college education.  There are many different kinds of scholarships out there including.

•Merit Scholarships
Merit scholarships are given by colleges to students on the basis of academic performance without regard for financial need. These scholarships are usually granted to the "upper crust" of entering students, academically speaking. In choosing merit scholars, a college usually looks at one or more of the following criteria:
     Class standing in high school
     Grade point average
     SAT or ACT scores
Depending on the college, some merit scholarships may also take into account the financial need of a student. However, this is not always the case and the largest scholarships are almost always merit-based.

• University Scholarships
At some colleges, scholarships may be awarded to students who have performed particularly well in a certain field. For instance, a student who has shown an aptitude for mathematics might be awarded a scholarship through that department at the university, provided they plan to pursue mathematics as a major course of study.

• Need scholarship
These scholarships usually have more generous financial qualification criteria, and many were endowed specifically for the student who wants to attend college, but whose parents make too much money for him to qualify for most federal programs. A need based scholarship may pay partial or full tuition, housing costs, and sometimes a books stipend. A need based scholarship may also be based partially on academic performance. That is, a student must first meet the financial criteria.

• Sociology
 Sociology by definition is the study of society, especially how humans relate within social constructs. This is financial aid where applicants must initially qualify by race, religion, or national origin. & when every criteria match  with the rules of the college  then only that student will get  scholarship.

• General  scholarship
 These are other scholarships, which are awarded for a variety of reasons that do not fall into one of the above categories. General scholarships are not restricted according to major, but may be restricted according to state or county of residency, as well as financial need.  Students  who donate blood to social organizations like Lions/ Rotary/Y's Men club, etc.  are also get some scholarship from the particular institution . some corporations give scholarships to their employees' children or based upon academic success. Students who are in backward category but meritorious also get scholarship from the institution.

Obtaining Scholarships

• Guidance counselors
Guidance counselors are school professionals who specialize in helping students make decisions about their personal and educational needs. Guidance counselors do so many things and provide such valuable information for a student who might be struggling with life choices. They can counsel students individually or sometimes in small groups. A guidance counselors job can range from leading a classroom discussion to administering placement tests. They also meet with students, parents, teachers, and other members of the school staff to discuss important issues. So when starting to explore scholarship opportunities, students should check with their guidance counsellors .

• Non-profit organizations
Most non-profit organizations have at some point of their history founded scholarships for prospective students.
         
• Community foundations
Community foundations provide a simple, powerful, and highly personal approach to giving money in form of stipend . They  offer a variety of giving tools to help people achieve their charitable goals – and create lasting good work in their communities.

• Labor unions
Labour unions work together to keep their employer from taking advantage of them. Unions are organizations that were created to protect employees. They are no longer the driving force they once were; however, they still provide many benefits to both employees and employers . So All the major labor unions offer scholarships for members and their dependent children.

• Houses of worship
Houses of Worship views the architectural endowments, the history of worship communities, the dynamics of faith that impel the congregants and the common themes that unite all the diverse communities. The local house of worship may or may not have any scholarships for their members, but the religious organization or headquarters may have some available.

• Chamber of commerce
chamber of commerce (also referred to in some circles as a board of trade) is a form of business network . Generally, chambers of commerce serve the following purposes:
Creating a strong local economy , Promoting the community Providing networking opportunities,Speaking with government on behalf of business , Political action, such as getting pro-business candidates elected to office  etc. So Many chambers of commerce offer (usually small) grants to students in the community, especially those planning on careers in business and public service.

• Other volunteer organizations
Other volunteer organizations are also offer stipends for engineering students whose profile , background or particular criteria match with this college criteria

• University
University give special scholarship to those students who are extremly talenteded & whose performance is the best but they must match some criteria of this institute .

Scholarship Programmes

What is Scholarship Programme?

The Scholarship Program and the Fellowships Program are vehicles for knowledge sharing and capacity building in the developing world. The Programs provide opportunities for graduate and postgraduate studies leading to master's and doctoral degrees in development-related fields for mid-career professionals eligible developing countries. Scholarship Programs mobilizes students and scholars by providing support for fellowships, scholarships, and related activities that empower individuals throughout the world to improve the the social, political, and intellectual environments of their communities .

1) Young Science Fellowship Programme

Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, invites applications Students must have studied Mathematics as one of the subjects at +2 level. Students must have joined B.Sc./Integrated M.Sc. programme in any branch of Science at any College/University. Travelling allowance ,  Free board and lodging (on a shared basis) will be give. Reimbursement of Tuition Fee to the extent of Rs 5000  perannum & Rs 1500 per annum, towards purchase of books. Relaxation criteria for SC/ST/PH students .

• Merit-cum-Means Scholarship
The objective of the Scheme is to provide financial assistance to the poor and meritorious students belonging to minority communities to enable them to pursue professional and technical courses.

• Students who get admission in professional sources without facing any competitive examination will also be eligible for scholarship.  However, such students should have not less than 50% marks at higher secondary/graduation level. Selection of these students will be done strictly on merit basis.

• A scholarship holder under this scheme will not avail any other scholarship/stipend for pursuing the course.
