Book review
India has a rich heritage and a talented workforce, and is emerging as a knowledge society. Yet, over 26% of the population is below the poverty line; illiteracy and large scale unemployment persist. Over the years, the authors have interacted with people from all walks of life. During these interactions, they could perceive a strong desire of the people to live in a prosperous, peaceful and safe India. Moreover, they realised that technology is the engine which is capable of leading the nation towards growth and prosperity. These factors spurred the authors to write this book. The authors dwell on the vision and emphasise the mission for people from all walks of life for actualising a Developed India by 2020. A Nation is great, not because a few people are great, but because everyone in the Nation is great Developed India’ vision is indeed a challenge and this can be overcome only if we, the one billion people come forward and join hands, forgetting all other petty issues. Cohesive and focussed efforts of the youth can see through the challenge to make India A ‘Developed Nation’. “The most powerful resource on earth is the ignited young mind and we believe that it should be empowered with adequate knowledge and leadership qualities to make the Developed India dream A REALITY”.
About the author Former scientific advisor to the Prime Minister and father of the Indian missile program, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam surprised few when he rolled up to Raisina Hill from small town Rameshwaram to become the President of India. His career has been sketched by many before. The strength of his writing, indeed, of his character, is his ability to mix scientific vision with the destiny of the nation. The style and diversity of his writing is like his career itself: Rich, diverse and simple. And unlike the ravings of scientists driven by their visions of excellence, Abdul Kalam draws on the collected experience from his diverse career, starting with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering to working in 3 of the nations premier research establishment namesly Indian Space Research Organisation, Defence Research and Development Organistion and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre
