At one level "mass communication" is simply communicating with masses as an
effecient medium to communicate whereas journalism is also communicating with
masses but with a different purpose.

At another level, while both are
processes, the medium used b each could be same though not necessarily.

I
like to distinguis between the two as "mass communication" does not have a
motivated commercial intent, despite have a sensitive content and "journalism"
as especially presently evidenced has changed for the wose in the sense, from
educating, informing the masses with an intent to construct a healthy society,
to using sensationalism to enhance readership, is bottom line driven (in fact
profit driven). Therefore in my way of thinking journalism to day has nothing
whatsoever to do with educating/informing masses and everything to do with
advertisements, sensationalism and filthy PROFITS. Their proclamations cut no
ice with me.

Mass communication is the various means by which individuals and entities
relay information through mass media to large sector of the population at the
same time.example it relate to newspaper and magazine publishing, radio,
television and film, as these are used both for disseminating news and for
advertising.
Journalism is the practice of investigation and reporting of
events, issues and trends to a broad audience journalism also covers cultural
aspects of society such as arts and entertainment. The field includes editing,
photojournalism, and documentary.
