What is the difference between a mountain bike and a road bike?

I'm just guessing here but I think a mountain bike is sturdier with wider
tires with more tread and the body of the bike has more and stronger metal. I
would guess that the seat would be more flexible and comfortable on the
mountain bike because you'd be bouncing up and down on trails.
