Do you like to be called as a patient or as a client/customer
Nowadays it has become a fashion in the corporate healthcare sector to call patients as clients. I find
it difficult to call my patients as clients since I feel the bond will no longer be there.
Let me know
your prefernce.

As a student , from my knowledge i would lik to tel my opinion. I think people
now a days consider healthcare in a more commercial way. Earlier it was like
doctors were given the most respect, only for the reason that they bring back
the suffering life . But with the changing mentality of the society, people
demand care and satisfaction as an exchange for money. They want eveythin cos
they pay money for that. Similarly if we consider the cases of insurance
business , there is exactly where the patients are called the customers. So. i
think it lies in the mind of the people who take the treatment. If they want
treatment for money rather than the passionte care, obviously they shd be
called CUTOMERS.

Here in the USA I don't think there's a preference, instead there's a pat
(particular) answer. People are called customers like in retail or at the
grocery store or anywhere where they buy a "product". A person is called a
"patient" only by doctors in the medical field and by hospitals. A person is
called a "customer" when they buy insurance as it's a product. A person is a
client when they work with one professional as a bank may have a client while
a teller (the non professional) might have a customer. A realtor has a
client. A psychiatrist (doctor) has a patient while a psychologist (not a
doctor but has a degree and MBA) has a client. A priest or minister has
parishioners.
