In a country like India - where 70% people live BPL (below poverty line) plus
education/ media generated knowledge is such - that MONEY Hai Toh Honey Hai
syndrome works well with us. True blue working people like Bill gates and
team, Larry Page and team - have a passion to achieve something - they work
for it and achieve it too.Money follows success (as shown correctly in film 3
IDIOTS).

And people who consider 'money' n only money as the motivating
factor...well they are the 'unhappy, eternally dissatisfied'
people....productivity slows down with such people in any group/ company...so
beware!

yes of course, it is motivator factor.e.g. In our field, we are appointing
Consortium (Academic Advisor), Consultants, freelancers, etc, to expand our
business. They gets commission by selling our product.

Not sure how money could be a demotivator?
I mean I cannot imagine anyone
saying that oh I am being paid more so i will not work.

As a motivator its
uses are again limited. A motivated employee need direction, resources and
realistic targets. Money is a by product of what we do.

It is a hard question to answer and it depends on what level you are within a
company. I have been at all levels from hourly worker to department manager. I
can tell you from experience that money does indeed motivate those at lower
levels to perform better, but the motivation doesn't usually last for the long
term. This is especially true of those who like to complain about everything.
The complainers will never be fully happy. I agree with Demetrios also that if
you treat people well and respect them they will perform better. The pay must
be enough to live on or no matter what you do you will never have a totally
happy motivated crew. As I have earned higher positions, money is just as
important, but recognition and respect go a long way. Recognition and respect,
however, do not pay the bills. Just my 2 cents.

It is a motivator because money is the most important possession any human
being can have. Money is the tree from which one can pluck all the comforts
and necessities of life. Money is also the most important factor that affects
an individual's ability to achieve his/her goals in today's world.

As per my thought, its not a 100% motivator. I think the people like dhirubhai
ambani, rajnikant, billgates, warenbuffet who start his life with scratch. those
are top motivator for those people who really want to grow in life and bacame
a personality...Thanks

Not necessarily. While we all go to work to earn a salary, my experience is
that people perform well when they know that their contributions add something
substantial to the operation.
I've always tried to exploit people's
strengths, and work on improving their weakness (if possible). It could boil
down to something as simple as coordinating a daily production activity, or
generating a report, or even recording cycle times.
When they start to excel
in these areas, they can be rewarded with an appropriate salary increase and
will likely be motivated to learn more and perform higher level activities.
