hmm this is an intresting question
1st is that they are not paid well by
the owners considering the money they get from their tips .
2nd these ppl
rate their customers wrt to the tips they recive from them , whilst sometimes
i feel that its the part of Hospitality ...should i really pay them ?
3rd If
i pay them how much should i ? an american old man to whom i was escorting
said that they pay 15 % approx or more & insisted that i pay like that .
I
like to pay not more than 2 to 3% of the bill .
Morever i also prefer to do
most of the things my self ...including serving the food .
4th the lingering
around of the Hotel satff gives a uneasy feeling & many times when a person is
occoupied in his own thoughts , these ppl stay back in the room untill U tell
them to go away with a tip . I think they should move away after finishing the
work promptly after informing the customer .
5th when a person is wearing a
uniform of the hotel should we consider his services as hisDuty?ORhis favour?

I think people when they write a comment on open forum need to think twice
before labeling a particular segment, or they need to rephrase their statement
as an individual experience and leave it open for all to decipher in whichever
way one wants to.
What Krishna has responded in a very apt way, that is my
reading of his comments.

My dear lady,
First off, hotel employees are NOT servants. They are just
career people like you and me. As for your comment that they do not do their
job without a tip, please do not generalize. For every hotel employee who
works only when tipped, there are a lot more who are warm and hospitable even
when they do not see any income. Hospitality comes from the heart, NOT from
money. Furthermore, we 'servants' also come across people from other
professions, who who do not work if they do not get their version of the
'tip', whether you call it bribe, or incentive, or whatever, and believe me
the percentage is much higher and at least these people you call 'servants'
neither demand it nor specify the amount they want. Would it be fair to
generalize a profession like that just because of possibly ONE stray incident?
I would request you to desist from making such sweeping statements. Show me a
'servant' who bargains/demands for his/her tip BEFORE serving you.
