H²e(hybrid human power generator) to power remote off-grid communities-from a remote
village to global village.
Developed countries have
become accustomed to having
access to an electric grid and
it is taken for granted that
electricalpower is available
at any time. However, this is
not the case in many
Remote villages in developing
countries where insufficient
Infrastructure has left many
people short of a basic energy
supply. It is estimated that
in india alone there are 80,
000 such villages and if one
includes many
Areas of africa this number
increases even further. This
lack of electricity is a
significant barrier that
prevents these villages from
becoming a part of the global
mainstream society. To address
this need, a portable hand
crank generating system is
proposed in this project to
supplement alternative energy
sources such as photovoltaic
cells and wind power systems.
An generator has been designed
to provide a 50w output and
occupy a small space with a
limited mass. A mechanical
transmission scheme is also
developed. This is augmented
with a battery and inverter to
supply power.
